AA support for Voluntary Attendance Interviews (VAI) will be suspended over the Christmas and New year period, from Wednesday 23rd December 2020 through to Monday 4th January 2021 inclusive. The earliest we would be able to support a VAI will be Thursday 7th January 2021.

Due to COVID-19, Appropriate Adults are only available for voluntary attendance interviews which are carried out at Guildford, Staines or Salfords Police Stations and any booking form submitted after 1600 on a Friday will not be processed until the following Monday.

48 hours NOTICE, Monday to Friday is necessary in order to ensure a trained Appropriate Adult can attend an appointment.

SAAVS members will only attend where a police officer is on hand to meet with them, to provide a briefing and to supervise the introduction to the interviewee. SAAVS members are not permitted to take responsibility for young people whilst attending these appointments. This remains the responsibility of the police.

  • Forms submitted after 16:00 on a Friday will not be processed until 09:00 on the following Monday
  • SAAVS are unable to provide Appropriate Adults for VA interviews between 0800-1000 and 1600-1830 hours Monday to Friday due to heavy traffic at these times. However, they will continue to provide support during these hours at weekends when they are given sufficient notice. They have asked that where the interviewee is a young person (under 18) to arrange the services of a solicitor beforehand. Inspector Gail McCoo 4686 Criminal Justice Guildford Police Station

SAAVS office will respond to each request during normal office hours Monday to Friday and provide confirmation of a trained SAAVS member’s availability as soon as possible. Please provide at least 48 hours notice in order to be able to supply as required.
